Clear, Safe, And Ethical Standards Of Practice
All registered health practitioners in Australia, including occupational therapists, must be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). This is the national system that sets the minimum standards for training, behaviour, ongoing learning and professional conduct.
Being registered with AHPRA is not optional or extra. It is the standard all therapists must meet to practice safely and legally.
What This Means for You
Clear Standards
I am required to meet national standards for education, professional behaviour and ongoing learning. These same standards apply to all AHPRA-registered therapists.
Ongoing Accountability
Registration is renewed every year. This means practitioners must keep skills current, practise ethically and reflect on their work over time.
Transparency
AHPRA keeps a public register so you can check a practitioner’s registration at any time. This helps families know who they are working with and what standards apply.
Safety and Complaints Pathways
If concerns are raised about any registered health practitioner, AHPRA provides an independent process to review and respond. This system exists to protect the public and support safe care.
How This Shows Up in My Practice
As a sole practitioner, responsibility for care sits with me. I work within the same AHPRA standards as all occupational therapists, using them to guide decision-making, boundaries and professional conduct.
These standards help create a service that is safe, accountable and focused on the wellbeing of the children and families I support.
